Natural gold nuggets come in various forms. One of the rarest forms is crystalline gold which is gold in it’s most natural form, just as it solidified in the quartz matrix it was brought near the surface of the earth in. As exposed quartz veins are exposed to the elements, acidic rain and oxidation of the stone can release these nuggets from the stone matrix and they can sometime be found by prospectors before they have a chance to be tumbled in streams and rivers to become the more typical flattened and smoother nuggets you more often see.
